1. THE KSHARA SUTRA THERAPY (MEDICATED ALKALINE THREAD): The Ksharasutra was first mentioned by the "Father of Surgery" Sushruta in his treatise named 'SUSHRUT SAMHITA' for the treatment of 'Naadi Vrana' (sinus), Bhagandara (Fistula- in - ano), Arbuda (small benign tumour) etc. Although Brihattrayi - the chief three texts of Ayurveda mention the use of kshara sutra, there is no description of its preparation properly. It was Chakrapani Dutta in late eleventh century, who first mentioned the method of preparation with a clear-cut indication of its use in Bhagandara (Fistula in ano) and Arshas (Haemorrhoids). In his book 'Chakradutta', he has explained the method that by smearing a sutra (thread) repeatedly in the latex of 'snuhi' (Euphorbia) and Haridra (Turmeric) powder makes the kshara sutra. Later authors like Bhavamishra, Bhaisajyaratnavali etc. also mentioned the same method. But because of brevity of preparation and inadequate explanation of procedure of application, it lost its popularity among Ayurvedic surgeons. Later in Rasatarangini a better preparation procedure was introduced. Still, the credit of making it practically and standerdizing the kshara sutra therapy goes to Late Prof. P.J. Deshpandey and his team headed by Dr. S R Gupta. They rediscovered and standardized this ksharasutra in the present era at the Department of 'Shalya- Shalakya' (Surgery and ENT), Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Soon thereafter, Prof. Kulwant Singh at Dept. of Shalya-shalakaya IPGTR and A Gujrat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, alongwith his team, had done the extension of Kshara-sutra usage in other ano-rectal conditions like Piles (Haemorrhoids), Chronic Fissure-in-ano with sentinel tags and other benign growths. Thousands of patients of various ano-rectal disorders were treated successfully in Jamnagar under his supervision.
In the present era, the Kshara sutra therapy is a well tested and accepted technique to treat difficult ano-rectal diseses like fistula-in-ano, piles (hemorrhoids) , Anal Fissure, Anorectal abscess etc. It can be compared to Minimally invasive parasurgical procedure It has been well established by various researches and clinical trials done at various research institutes like PGI Chandigarh, ICMR, CCRAS New Delhi, AIIMS, New Delhi and many more.
2. AGNIKARMA : Agnikarma is a procedure described by the ancient Ayurveda sages like Sushruta for various diseases. In the present era this procedure has been modified by using modern technological advancements. It involves excision of benign growths like piles, tags, warts or an abscess unhealthy tissues using a special instrument known as 'Thermocautery'. It is a safe and bloodless procedure as the heat coagulates the blood vessels and seals them off during the procedure.
3. AYURVEDIC SHODHAN CHIKITSA (DETOXIFICATION THERAPY/PANCHAKARMAS): Ayurveda has two types of treatment modalities viz. Ayurvedic Shodhan or Sanshodhan Chikitsa and Ayurvedic Shaman or Sanshaman Chikitsa. In Shodhan Chikitsa we use various theraputic procedures like Vamana (Theraputic emesis), Virechana (Theraputic purgation), Vasti (Theraputic enema), Nasya (Use of medicine as nasal insufflation), Raktamokshan (Blood letting therapy). These procedures were mentioned by Ancient Ayurvedists like Charak and Sushruta under 'Panchakarma'. These procedures cleanse the internal organs and helps in making a 'Doshas equillibrium' (Body's humors' equillibrium) and leads to detoxification of body.As a result Ayurveda medicines and herbs work faster thus this helps in getting rid from the diseases easily.
4. AYURVEDIC SHAMAN CHIKITSA OR SANSHAMANA (PACIFYING THERAPY): In Shaman Chikitsa (Pacifying therapy) we use quality Ayurvedic medicines and fresh herbs for treating the disease. Shaman Chikitsa can be administrated after Shodhana Chikista or as an independent therapy.
