Piles during pregnancy

Piles is a common condition now a days, but you’re more likely to get them when pregnant due to the level of certain hormones, and other factors in your body. Let’s have a look :-

The hormone progesterone, relaxes the walls of your blood vessels and makes piles a lot more likely condition to occur.

The weight of your baby as it grows, puts more pressure on your veins, leads to their enlargement and hence increases probability of piles.

Constipation, a common occurrence during pregnancy, also increases the likelihood of suffering from piles in pregnancy.

Symptoms of piles

The swollen vessels will become painful and uncomfortable, it’s possible they may hang down during or after passing a stool.

The hard stool leads to the scratching of pile mass leading to ulceration in the mucosal wall of hemorrhoids and hence bleeding, which is usually painless, as drops or sometimes  more in quantity like a splash in toilet pan.

Persistent Anal itching, mucous discharge and feeling frequent urge for passing stools becomes a common thing.

How to prevent piles in pregnancy

Although Piles being a common occurrence during pregnancy, there are steps you can take to prevent them:

Drink plenty of water, fruit juices in order to stay away from constipation.

Eat fibre rich food, fruits, whole wheat bread, salad etc.

Do as much walk and exercise as you can

Do not strain during defecation .

Ayurveda treatment of Piles in pregnancy:

A number of oils and medicines are there, which can help you in controlling bleeding, pain or burning sensation from Piles and other anorectal diseases during pregnancy.

Normally piles arising during pregnancy get reduced spontaneously after delivery of baby but if symptoms like bleeding and prolapse of lump/mass etc are still present, it is quite possible that they are of 3rd grade or more. In that case surgical removal (Hemorrhoidectomy) or Kshara sutra are the permanent solutions for your problem that can be performed by a qualified doctor after examining you thoroughly.

In normal delivery Kshar sutra procedure can be done after 15 days, while in surgical deliveries (ceserian section), it can be performed after 2-3 months of delivery.

During, that period also, there are medicines which can help you get rid of Anal burning, bleeding and other Anal discomfort which can be taken after consultation with Ayurveda Physician.
